Temporary Anchorage-OBS

TADs are an optional but often effective means to improve efficiency of the process and quality of the outcome.


What is OBS?

A biocompatible device fixed to bone for the purpose of moving teeth is in need of a “power boost”. TADs are often used to supplement or substitute for elastics.


Is it painful?
It does not hurt when they are placed. All procedure is performing under local anesthesia. You may feel discomfort or painful after LA goes off. However, painkiller can solve your problem.

When the desire teeth movement achieve, OBS will be taken out. So it called Temporary Anchorage Device. Usually, OBS will be removed before the end of the orthodontic treatment and it is simple and straightforward.

How to take care of it?
You must keep the screw place clean enough to prevent it from infected.  You can clean around the Mini-screw with the normal toothbrush and enhance the cleanliness with chlorhexidine mouthwash.

In conclusion, TADs can improve treatment times and, in many situations, offer greater patient satisfaction.

  2. I'm getting temporary anchorage procedure done next month and I was freaked out because a screw will be going into my gum.
