6 Bad Habits that Harm your Teeth!!!!

The enamel is the hardest part of the body. Teeth are tough but they're no match for neglect, misuse, or abuse.

People often engage in certain habits involving the mouth that are detrimental to their oral health.

1. Don’t brush your teeth right after every meal
  •    If you do it too soon, you can scrub away tooth enamel that becomes softer in the acidic environment created in your mouth when you eat.

2. Skip annual dental check up
  • Dentist emphasised on regular check up but most of the patients failed to comply. ‘Prevention is better than cure’, early intervention can prevent further damage on the dental tissues.

3.  Using your teeth as tools

  •    Many people use their teeth as tools to open bottles or a bag of chips, tear off plastic tape, and rip a price tag off new clothing.
  •    It can crack or break your teeth.
  •    Keep the real tools like scissors or wire-cutters handy and use them to do the work.

4. Brushing too hard

  •    When you brush too vigorously or use a hard-bristled toothbrush, it can wear away the protective enamel on your teeth. It can also lead to receding gums and increased tooth sensitivity.
  •    Choose a soft brush and use gentle circular strokes for best results.

5. Teeth grinding( bruxist)

  •    It can lead to a variety of dental problems including excessive wear of the teeth chipping, cracking, and fracturing of teeth and loosening of teeth.
  •    Your dentist may suggest you to wear a mouth guard when you go to bed to limit the damage it can cause.

6. Soda, Sports Drinks, and Fruit Juices.

  •    Soda and sports drinks often have either too much sugar or, in the case of diet soda, too much acid also contribute to the formation of cavities.
