A laser
is an instrument that produces a very
narrow, intense beam of light energy. When laser light comes in contact
with tissue, it causes a reaction. The light
produced by the laser can remove or shape tissue.
Laser dentistry
is started since 1990. Lasers can be used as a safe and
effective treatment for a wide range of dental procedures and are
often used in conjunction with other dental instruments.
Dental lasers can be used to:
Infection control

Cosmetic

b. Tooth whitening-enhance the effect and
speed up procedure
Incison of soft tissue
a.Removed overgrown
gum in tooth cavity/
hyperplasia of gingival
b. Remove labial frenum/muscle attachment
that
limit proper movement
Perform biopsy procedure
Reduce discomfort of ulcer
and cold sores
However,
even those procedures that require only a short period of laser usage benefit
from the advantages of laser therapy.
With
laser surgery, there is a reduced need for local
anesthesia, bleeding is minimized, swelling is
controlled, and there is usually little,
if any, postoperative discomfort.
